I remember seeing two notices in the local fishmongers during the war ...

The first one read:

"Handsome is as handsome does,
And though a fish looks funny,
You'll find it very good to eat,
And value for your money."

The other one read:

"When my slab is cold and empty,
Do not look at me with woe,
Fishermen have gone a hunting,
For the mines laid by the foe."
