I joined up in March '43. I went to Newfoundland as a telegrapher. While I was on a frigate in the Atlantic I met a chap named Norton, who showed me drawings of the mechanisms of a motorbike. [The Norton motor bike was well-known subsequently]. After that he disappeared and I never saw or heard from him again. I don't know whether his ship was struck by a torpedo or U boat.
