I lived in Deepdene Close Cinderhill Nottingham ,there was twenty houses in the close.Thirty eight children lived there, most of the dads were serving overseas during the war, including my own father who was in the eighth army. He first served in the middle east then Italy. I remember that I learned more geography at home than at school as my mother used to show me on a map where my dad was and all the other places that the other childrens dads were. We listened to all the news reports. All the kids played outside in the Close ,we were like a huge family each caring for everyone else. On VE day i remember as if it was only yesterday, we children were out playing when Mrs Bagshaw appeared at her upstairs window which she had flung open she shouted out ITS OVER THE WAR ITS OVER. Great cheers went up from all of the children ,mums came running out of the houses, crying and laughing at the same time. They started planning a street party there and then .Everyone chipped in what they had to contribute and what a party it was.!!!!!
