When we left Liverpool and went to France we landed in Cherbourg. The commanding officer said “Come on lads, go out and have a good time.” We saw this thing, it looked like a café, and we all sat down, all these dancing girls came down with hardly anything on. The Madame came down saying “What do you want?” We said “We’ve only come in for a coffee.” We had no French money. She told us to get out.
