Whilst out shopping with my Mother a 'doodlebug' was heard coming up the street behind us.
I was dragged into the nearestn shop and pushed under the counter. The doodlebug sailed by and crashed into a field 5 miles away.
If the sirens went off while we were at school we were sent into the air-raid shelter where we stayed until the all-clear sounded.
On train journeys to visit my Grandmother American servicemen would give us sweets and one time I was given chewing gum and I didn'tknow what to do with it.
