As a two year toddler in 1943 I fell ill with Osteomyelitis. This disease affected the bone marrow in my right ankle. I was taken into Peterborough General Hospital where I was operated on by a Mr Noel Smith.

What is significant about this operation is that my survival was due to the hospital doctors obtaining a small amount of Penicillin for me. Apparantly Penicillin was in very short supply during the war years as it was needed for the troops.

I was one of those very lucky civilians to be given this life saving treatment. I don't know how or where the doctors obtained this antibiotic for me but I am extremely grateful to them. They saved my life. A BIG THANK YOU TO THEM.
