Most of us children played on the beach by Gladstone dock. I remember a lady with a big black umbrella, she used to sell lemonade before the war.
However she and 2 of her children were killed in the Christmas blitz. But the eldest girl survived although badly burned and later moved to St Helens. She was called Mary Sweeney.
