I first worked for a company in south east who made camouflage nets and therefore I wasn`t called up for the forces. I consider my self lucky to lead a normal life. However I helped in my spare time doing fire watching and first aid.
In my leisure time I enjoyed going to the cinema also to dances. I remember going to see my favourite film Gone with the wind.
Whenever possible I visited my brother and sister who were evacuated to Sussex.
At one time when I was shopping we had to take shelter because the air raid started. And when we came out of the shelter after about an hour the tram lines and roads had been affected by the blast of a near by bomb.
In the latter end of the war I moved to the south west where I worked for the Territorial Army.
