I was a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) 661815. I wore a Red Cross on my apron. I joined at Netley Hospital and was also called to a Camp Reception Station in Southampton. There I met my husband, an MO attached to the 44 RM Commando.
We had been married a month when he was sent to Burma. Two years passed. I went to India on the Winchester Castle. We were sent down to South India to Bangalore.
To my utter amazement, my husband suddenly appeared in the ward. I remember we sat for 1/2 an hour on the verandah just holding hands and not speaking. We were too overcome with emotion to say a word!
What a day that was!
