My mother in law lived next to us and thee were shelters in the street and we were not eligible for compensation if we did not use them. Some people used to shelter under tables. Great Mersey Street, Cubbon Street and Arnot Street were all hit. A baby in a cot in the middle of County Road was the only survivor of a blast there. St Gerard's and St Aphonsus churches were badly bombed.
