My Nan and Grandad met each other in 1944. They were both young volunteers. My Nan was a gunner on the anti-aircraft battery (in the 573’s) and my Grandad was the radar operator, tracking enemy planes as they flew towards Liverpool. Grandad had to relay co-ordinates and distances over the headset to Nan, who would then act upon them. I think they listened to each other for quiet a while before they met face to face.

They were married just after the war, still in their early twenties and Nan’s wedding dress was made from German parachute silk.
They stayed together for 50 years and 3 children. Everybody thought of them as the perfect couple.
