Seaching my grand father

My grand father died in 1999. He was a soldier of WW2.(P/289800)
War Substantive Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers, WILKINS Frédérick Georges went in France and accross Europ from 6.6.44 to approx aug/sp 45. Before he was in the searchlight battery 316, 567 and 83 between 1939 and 1944; Land at sword beach Ouistreham D-Day +1 then he follows troops from Normandy to germany. His job was bilding or reparing bridges.
I'm looking after this overseas periode that he didnt talk about with us. I'm in France and I look for some answer.
