I have lived all my life in Shifnal. In 1938 I was 21 years old but was not called up for the army as I had a gammy leg so was classified as disabled. I did however help make spitfires at Lillyhurst where they also went on to make bomber parts and eventually bombs. It also meant I had to give up smoking.
