This is a tale that my father recounted to all of us when we were younger. Unfortunately he is now dead and we are so sad that we didnt get him to record it for us.
My father was serving as a tank driver and was captured and put in a prisoner of war camp in Italy. (I think it was called Tebruke) He was very unhappy about the germans handing him and the rest of them over to the Italians as they were not so fair as the Germans. He managed to escape with a group of men and cycled through to Switzerland cycling from monastry to monastry, and pretending to be deaf and dumb. All that I can remember is that he had to jump into a ditch when coming over a hill and confronted by a convoy of Germans ahead. Eventaully he reached Switzerland and on safe ground.
I will get names of places and add them as much as I can.
