I was an airgunner in a Halifax bomber, taking part in a thousand bomber raid over Stuttgart.
The plan was to release the bomb-load and then for the aircraft to be dived to 1300ft. ( about 400m ).
I looked up to see another Halifax beginning to dive above and towards us. I shouted over the intercom. telling the pilot to dive to port ( left ) to avoid collision.
I watched as the aircraft wings came within inches of each other.
