At the farm in the afternoons B17s used to come over the farm to their base. I always watched because of what thought were fireworks, I was very young at the time, much later I found out that these “fireworks” were the red flares sent up by pilots to indicate there were injured in the planes. These memories have had a profound effect on me as I now paint pictures of planes for museums.
