I was born in 1917 and when I was 20 years of age I worked in Broadfords in Aberdeen making hosepipes, making material for the waterbottles, and tarpaulins for the navy.

I worked at Broadfords for 46 years in total.

I enjoyed the war. I used to come to the Beach Ballreoom in Aberdeen during all the war years and there were good dance bands but I can’t remember the names of any of them. There was soldiers stationed nearby during the war and they would come to the dances and I really enjoyed it all.

My brother was in Burma during the war. He was a Sergeant in the Marines and he got the military medal. He was lucky as he came through it all without being captured.

There was once when I was in Union Street and was caught in an air raid and it was a bit scary.
