I was living in London when the war started. I had an aunt living in Hoddesdon and was sent there rather than being evacuated. I went to school there.
My cousin joined the RAF and all the family were older than me. Later my family moved to Hoddeson and we had a house in the same road.
Towards the end of the war I joined the army cadets and I was also in the St John’s Ambulance Brigade. I did a duty in the cinema so I saw all the films! We also went hop-picking with an aunt from Islington.
One day a bomb landed on the roof of the house next door and slid down the roof and landed in our front garden. It had to be dealt with by the council as it was burning a hole. But it was returned as a souvenir.
