I was evacuated to America in 1940, aged 4. I was in Princeton. I think my parents must have fixed it up. My father came to see me once while he was in the RAF.
I was brought back on an aircraft carrier, which was quite exciting. I didn't recognise my mother - I must have been 7 then. It was difficult slotting back into life in England.
After the war, my parents bought a farm near Axminster, and I spent a lot of my childhood there.
