In 1941, when I was 7 years old, I went to live in Dr. Banardo’s house in Bristol, then later on to Woodford Bridge in Essex and Bromborough on the Wirral. My father had died and mother having a large family- some had to go into the home. On the whole the staff were kind and I was happy. The rules were strict, Bedtime etc.
