This is Mr Pilch’s story - it has been added by a Volunteer from Crawley 19th Sqdn ATC, with permission from the author, who understands the terms and conditions of adding his story to the website.

My father was in the home guard. my mother was seeing a friend out of the door and and looked up and said “look at all those planes“ and then said “two round things fell off the plane” and her friend said “they're bombs!”

My mum's friend pushed her up the hall. My dad’s friend had a car and they heard a large bang - he saw a large heap of metal and thought it was a German bomber and then realised it was his car!
