===============================================

My brother Bob and I, only about 12 and 14 years of age at the time, went to see the later Abbot & Costello film at the Hippodrome in Rotherham. The queue was very long, and we thought we had no chance of getting in, so we waited in line. Then a German bomber suddenly came along and dropped a stick of bombs over Clifton Park, and the queue disappeared in an instant!

My brother Bob and I just walked straight through and watched the film.

When we got home, our dad asked us “Have you heard the sirens going and what did you do?” We just told him we went to watch the picture. He was very cross that we had not come straight home, and he showed his appreciation by smacking our bums!
