Aged 22, I went from Madagascar to India and then Burma. After a long train journey, we marched for 50 miles. It was very rough going. The Monsoon broke and there were heavy casualties. I was abroad for four years.
The inscription on the monument at Kohmia is:
When you go home
Tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow
We gave our today.
