vv Waking the dead
My name is john cairns I was born in Glasgow in 1934 I was only about 5years old when war was declared and I was very frightened we all thought we were going to die
I was evacuated to a farm house in Ayrshire it was very nice there I was very happy but after a while I went back home because we felt we were winning the war just about 3miles out side Glasgow there was a prisoner of war camp full of Italian prisoners they were very friendly and would make wooden toys for us children and pass them through the fence I had a wooden horse and rider. Suddenly one day when we went to the camp the Italians had gone, instead there were Germans, and the first thing we children saw was a man hanging by his neck dead! the Germans had done this to one of their own people
