I was evacuated from Croydon beside the airport following an accident when I was blown through a substantial door by a V1 Bomb (Doodlebug). My Mother came from Lincoln and several times a year we would visit my Aunts and Uncles in the City, and I was left to stay with my three maiden aunts. One Christmas when my parents came to visit me and to escape from the V2 bombs as I woke suddenly I shook my Aunt and said " That's a doodlebug overhead". She thought that the presence of my parents had made me imagine it. But alas it was the occasion of doodlebugs in Lincoln. My parents insisted that they had not brought the bombs with them!
