My name in Mona Harris. I lived with my grandmother Ella Wright, and sister, Gwendalyn in Antigua. I remember the planes flying over the island when I was a little girl, the sound scared us, but we never felt in danger. Food was scarce in Antigua, Rice, Oil and Flour was scarce.

I remember a woman being trampled to death during rationing. She was waiting in line for some food. We were all really shocked. We were queuing in the same line waiting for our food. People were issued with a ration book back then, and the place food was in a warehouse. There were no guards to protect the food, or to ensure safety.

We lived upstairs in my grandmothers shop and the bomb shelter was underneath the shop. None of my family went to war.
