When it was the air raids my husband said “here they come, they’re dropping their shit again”. I was so scared of the raids. One time I had just fetched my little lad in off the Street (King Lake Street). Then I looked out the window and the planes were machine gunning all the way down the street. The Gun Factory was at one end of us and the factory making shells was at the other end (my mother in law lived near there) and three was the railway going along Arkwright Street, I think they were aiming for that.
I never want to see another war
