I was a propeller shaper for Hurricanes and Spitfires at a place near Addlestone in Surrey.
We were all working very long hours and after several weeks without a break we were told we could all have a Sunday off.
It was about 1 ½ miles to walk to work as the firm was not on a bus route.
Nevertheless, on the Sunday we were supposed to be off, I got out of bed and continued to walk to work.
I passed a work mate of mine who shouted across the road “Where are you going Ron?” To which I replied “To work of course.”
He then replied “This Sunday we are off”. It then dawned on me that he was right so I turned straight round and proceeded home and went straight back to bed.
