SOE Operation to Norway on 29/11/1944.Pilot gives orders to abandon aircraft owing to engines malfunctioning.Four crew including myself bale out and made POWs. Returning home after the war ceases we learn that the Pilot stated he gave orders to prepare to abandon aircraft, not to abandon aircraft. Many years of research has been made by myself and persons from Norway and other areas in an endeavour to unravel the mystery surrounding this Operation but each time certain aspects are mentioned the contacts decline to discuss or divulge any information. How can a Pilot sit at the controls of an aircraft, say cheerio, pat them on the back as they pass him to go forward and down the steps to the escape hatch and then say the first thing he knew we had baled out was when his gunner remarked over the inter com "The Chutes have Gone" The story has many un-explainable twists but where do I look for the answer is there somebody in WW2 Peoples War who flew from Rivenhall in Essex on either 295 or 570 Squadron and knew F/O Finlay
