I can remember the Anderson shelter being delivered and placed at the bottom of the garden, remeber my dad and uncle digging the hole and erecting the shelter and then covered it over with the earth dug out of the hole. My father got hold of a pice of wood, like the bottom of a box, which he hinged onto the front of the shelter so we could pull it up with ropes like a draw bridge. So no light could be seen from outside a blanket was hung over the door. The lighting was only oil lamps and candles, with an oil stove for heating.
We were going into the shelter most nights the sirens were let off.
I remember watching dog fights over the Thames After the war the shelter was dug up and used as a shed for many years by dad.
