Missing in Malaya

My husband told me this story after the war.

He was missing in action in Malaya during the time that the Japanese were invading. His leg was badly injured by a shell and he didn't managed to get on the boat which was shipping people out. After it left Malaya that boat was sunk and everyone on it was lost.

He eventually managed to hitch a lift on a sultans boat. By the time he got to land his leg was badly damaged and never quite got better.
