On the night of 21st October 1940, three weeks before the main Blitz, the Germans bombed Coventry. My father, John Ferguson (known by all as Fergie), owned a chemist’s shop in Foleshill Road, and we lived on the premises. The building was destroyed that night. We came out of the shelter with only the clothes we stood up in. It was the only time I saw my father cry.
