One of the most amazing stories I've heard about the war concerns a lady, just a baby at the time, by the name of Lilian Saunders (Morley at the time). Lil lived with her family in Middlesborough at the time of the story.
Sadly the family house was bombed whilst Lil and her mum were inside, fearing they were both dead the family went back to the house to see if they could do anything and Lil's sister Jessie heard the baby cry and, sure enough even though the house had fallen around her, Lil was still alive.
Lil grew up, married and moved to London where she had 3 boys and 2 girls.
Lil is still alive today and this Saturday she will celebrate her 65th birthday, Jessie is still alive as well and hopefully will be there.
How do I know this story, I'm engaged to her youngest daughter, Vena-Jean. Lil still carries around the newspaper cliping reporting the story and thats how I know the story to be true.
