I met a Canadian pilot, also an amputee, and we went out together, both on crutches which caused quite a sensation. Imagine getting on and off escalators.

Once a Corporal asked me at a dance if I would join him and his tin leg on the floor, I said "Yes, if you could manage me and mine!"

If ever an officer got a bit fresh and touched my left knee - he would get a bit of a shock to find it so hard!
