I was a plotting officer in the WRNS in Portsmouth. We were told about D Day a couple of days beforehand. We had to sign the Official Secrets Act. We worked in shifts, and plotted all the ships crossing the Channel. I will never forget it.
On VE Day I was in Colombo, working on the Commander in Chief's staff, plotting and planning in readiness for invading Japan. I made myself available to go on to Australia, but wasn't required.
