One of them when I started school, Greenwoods Colege, on 4th september, the day after war was declared. Being held up under Rily bridge when a raid was on. Later whilst working in Manchester having to thumb a lift into work and not recognising where I was when I reached Blackfriars, Deansgate and seeing Cranes pianos burning and only the chimney of Woolworths left standing. Devastation all around.
