I was a driver for the Fire service at Moss Side Fire Station for a year during the war, before I left to give birth to my son. Fortunately I didn't encounter any bad air raids whilst I was driving. My work was mainly to attend house fires. The men I worked with were all very friendly and helpful and protected me from any trouble - so I quite enjoyed my term of duty.

I do remember watching a 'dog-fight' in the sky between a german plane and a Spitfire. The Jerry scooted off, dropping three bombs on his way. I was so entranced that I never thought of running for shelter!
