In the dark days of 1940 we were marching through the streets of Ayr, Scotland, in hob nailed boots and blackened faces for some manouevres on one of the lochs, when suddenly up shot the sash cord bedroom windows and down came sweets, sachets of tea and sugar, a wonderful, wonderful treasured , unforgetable memory.
