My Dad was aged 30 when war broke out and after initial training was sent to Malta where he was a Royal Artillery and was a gunner (Anti Aircraft)on the island which was under siege.

Then he was sent to Anzio in Italy. Belgrave Mills in Darwen was a munitiions factory during the war - my mother worked there.

Dad was deb-mobbed in November 1945, and me and Mum went to meet him at Darwen Station. I recognised him instantly - well suntanned!
