Boarding the train to Warrington to start Driver Training school at High Lea. I was thrilled to see another "Rookie" and discover we were both going to the same destination
Her name was Beryl Nimmo, her brother Derek later became a famous actor, we became fast Friends and stayed to-gether for the the Next Three Yrs.
After Graduating we were Posted to Southhampton and were staff car drivers for the Canadian Crews of the Queen Mary and Elizabeth. The War Having ended, we were told to find civvy billets and rented a lovely ground floor flat right on the Dock Rd. opposite the Berths of the the two Queens,.Our Excitement was very High, until after retiring, we heard little taps on the French doors, On investigation there were tiny little brown men called lascars who were looking for the previous tenants,(ladies of the night )!
We stuck it out and later on when the two ships were being returned to their former glory, we were Posted to a demob camp at bluebell lane in Liverpool and where able to live at home for the rest of our service.
Those three years were without any doubt the Best yrs of my life,I now Live In Canada,Vancouver Island , but that is another chapter.
