When my Nan died in September this year I thought the only memories I would have of her were those I'd known as a child but I have been left the most wonderful gift.

For over 40 years all the love letters written between her and my grandfather (whilst he was serving in the RAF) were stored at the bottom of her wardrobe.

I have just began reading them and it has taken me on an incredible journey back to a different age altogether. The letters speak frankly of hopes, dreams, fears, desires, world events, oil lamps, billets, pilot-less planes, windows blown out in the Blitz.

But above all they show that very little in life changes from one generation to the next.

It is a priveledge for me to gain such an insight into my grandparent's younger lives and I realise that countless other couples like them experienced much the same emotions.

They are my family history and will become an heirloom
