We had finished one hop garden in September when the Battle of Britain, when we witnessed a dogfight in the sky, and bits of one of the planes fell in the garden where we were working. A German prisoner fell in the hop garden on a parachute. He was taking away in a lorry and my sister and I dived into a ditch, because we thought he was after us!
