I was 3 when war broke out. When the Doodlebugs were falling everyone in the South East felt very vulnerable. My mother and father cleared out the cupboard under the stairs and that was where me and my mother slept. There wasn't room for for my three brother so they slept somewhere else - I can't remember where but it wasn't their own beds. My father was an ARP Warden so he went out afte seeing I was safe under the stairs.
