I lived at Little Bradley, which had once been a private Estate and there was a long lane which had a round house at the top and gates. Half way along the lane was a pill box and a searchlight in the adjoining field. One nice day in the summer of ’42, I think it was, I was walking along this lane wearing a bright yellow dress; there was a plane overhead. I didn’t notice that it was a German plane firing at the searchlight until the lads at the searchlight shouted “Get under cover”.
