In January 1940, aged 22, I went to France as part of the Duke of Wellington Regiment. On 12th June I was wounded and in a hospital in France. I became a POW and ended up in Czechoslovakia. In 1944/45 the Russians came and let us go. I flew back to England with the RAF.
I also had a brother who was a POW.
When I was injured I had a tin of drinking chocolate in my back pocket. There was shrapnel stuck in it once I was hit which was lucky.
