Muriel on her grandfather's farm

This and another poem was written while Dick was recovering from illness in either "Chungkai" or "Wuntakian", while a prisoner of Japan.

To My wife Muriel

No shining star set in azure sky,
Or golden moonglow soft and shining,
Can ever set my heart at rest,
It's not for those which I’m pining.
**
All this foreign climes exotic marvel,
Its wondrous orchids, butterflies and birds,
Can ever give me that glorious thrilling,
I get from Muriel’s sweet and loving words.
**
Tropic night with sparkling fireflies,
Tree's hung with gossamer and lace,
Glittering river specked with rainbow dragons,
Can ever hold me like Muriel’s embrace.
