Sitting casualties

“I had the use of a car during the war in connection with a catering company I
was running in Dover. I was instructed however that I could only get permission to run the car if I were prepared to pick up what were described as “sitting casualties.” This story was considered very funny in pubs and clubs because none of us had ever heard of “sitting casualties”. Like other people I had never heard of “sitting casualties.” Casualties were either laid out or “running like Hell.”
