I joined the ATS in February 1940. I did my six week's training at the Ocean Hotel, Brighton. I was posted to Aldershot to the 93rd Anti Tank Regiment RA. We transferred to Church Stretton, Shropshire. I was a cook for two years. I then volunteered to join the all woman's 93rd Searchlight Regiment in 1942 - 1943. I did my searchlight training at Kimnel Park, North Wales. One night I was woken by what I thought was rain on the roof. I soon realised the end of my hut was on fire. The fire door was rusted up and would not open. I was saved by a soldier who pulled me through a window. Thank you, whoever you are! I was on searchlight site at Kingsmoor Green, Hemel Hempsted in Hertfordshire.
