I was coming up from the shelter on Christmas Eve - the world was red like the inside of a furnace - terrifying but magnificent.
I had a black velvet "siren suit". My father was a warden - because of the blackout - no lights at all - he was on duty, shrapnel flying all around. He came home with a cut face. Apparantley the post box had been moved - he walked right into it.
I was evacuated shortly after to Churchtown near Garstang - that's another story!
