In the air raid shelters we had no lights or anything. There was a big massive bang as a phosphorus bomb went off under the kitchen and all the fumes came up.
This was 1941 and we had to leave the house with only a coat and handbag to stay at the Catholic school in New London Road. However time bombs were on the school field so we went to Springfield Park Avenue for somewhere to stay.
